Study Shows that Timber Buildings Cost Less to Build   

 

A new study shows that timber buildings can be up to 10-15% cheaper to construct than traditional designs in several different building types. The study, “Commercial Building Costing Case Studies – Traditional Design versus Timber Project,” was led by Andrew Dunn, chief executive of the Timber Development Association (TDA) in Australia. Part of a seminar series touring Australia, the report contains detailed designs of four building types in both timber and conventional construction, with a quantity surveyor comparing cost estimates between them. DH Triangle School

The Triangle School implies the different characteristics of its three bordering sides. The playground to the north, the hill to the east, and the existing building to the west are three different surroundings. These factors lead to three different elevations – opened, closed, and compromised – which are arranged within the layout of the triangular building.

La propuesta del estudio de Rotterdam MVRDV ha sido seleccionada en el concurso para construir un centro cultural en el corazón del municipio holandés de Zaanstad, situado a 9 kilómetros del centro de Ámsterdam. Reinterpretando el apilamiento de viviendas que componen la fachada del cercano Hotel Inntel, el diseño está concebido como una agrupación de cuerpos —inspirados en las formas de las casas tradicionales de la región del Zaan— cuyas siluetas variadas y en diferentes colores se recortan en la envolvente del volumen cúbico.
